Celebration in Cetinje

Royal Theatre "Zetski dom"

On July 8th, the Royal Theatre "Zetski dom" celebrated the jubilee '140 years since the laying of the foundation stone'. The festive celebration was conceived as a play in two acts, according to the idea and concept of the previous and current artistic directors of the theatre - Lidija Dedović and Stela Mišković.

The first act of the ceremony called "Luča pozorišna" was directed by Aleksandar Vujović. In front of this historic building, the audience enjoyed an impressive performance by members of the ballet ensemble of the Sarajevo National Theatre and the folklore ensemble of the Cultural and Artistic Society "Njegoš" from Cetinje. The musical part of the program consisted of opera performances by the soprano Sara Vujošević Jovanović accompanied by the piano and the Choir "Vocalists". Through several scenes, the actors presented the beginning of the construction of the oldest national theatre in Montenegro, and spoke authentic quotes from Montenegrin newspapers from that time. A special experience was the video projections on the theatre building, which presented the construction of this institution stone by stone and brought the audience back to the time of the first plays performed there.

After the first act in the exterior of the Royal Theatre, the audience entered the building where was the "theatre room", a creative set by Nina Martinović, with costumes and props from past and current performances.

The second act, performed on the stage of the Royal Theatre, was directed by Ana Vukotić, and in this act over thirty actors participated. They spoke lines from plays produced by Zetski dom: from the play "Princess Xenia of Montenegro" from 1994 to current ones.

The rich program of this important jubilee for the theatre and culture of Montenegro was supported by the Ministry of Culture and Media of Montenegro, the Old Royal Capital Cetinje, the Montenegrin National Theatre, Radio Television of Montenegro, the City Theatre Podgorica and National Library "Đurđe Crnojević". The entire program was broadcast to a wider audience on the public service.
