On October 12, the Teatro Stabile di Torino showcased the premiere study of Appeal to Europe, at the Lehár Theater in Bad Ischl, Austria. The performance is part of Europe Speech: Zweig, a special program curated by the Mitos21 network for the theater festival celebrating Bad Ischl/Salzkammergut as the European Capital of Culture 2024.Stefan Zweig, Austrian-born writer, journalist, playwright, and poet who later became a British citizen, authored four celebrated speeches on Europe. These have now been adapted into a theatrical performance by playwright Diego Pleuteri, directed by Micol Jalla. Zweig’s vision captured a profoundly moving idea of a united Europe, rooted in Humanism and a shared cultural heritage. Born at a time of crisis for the continent, on the brink of World War II, these speeches continue to resonate with striking relevance today, offering insights and inspiration to those seeking to overcome the current standstill in the vision for a unified Europe.
