Dr. Eduardo Simões, legal director at GDA (Gestão dos Direitos dos Artistas, Portugal’s collective management organisation of performers’ rights, including actors, musicians and dancers) highlights the challenges encountered in terms of performers’ rights during the covid-19 pandemic, as many European theatres have turned to streaming to keep the link with their audiences. He then introduces the opportunities created for performers’ and authors’ rights by the Directive on Copyright and Related Rights in the Digital Single Market, to be implemented by the Member States in the coming months.
