Things I Know to Be True

Teatro Stabile di Torino - National Theatre

01 - 27 October 2024

Valerio Binasco directs the national premiere of Things I Know to Be True by Andrew Bovell at the Carignano Theatre in Turin, the opening production of the Teatro Stabile di Torino's season. The show, running from October 07 to October 27, 2024, will then embark on an extensive tour.

Valerio Binasco opens the new season at Teatro Stabile with a powerful and deeply emotional work, marking its Italian debut: Things I Know to Be True, a moving and audacious drama by internationally acclaimed Australian playwright Andrew Bovell. Known for his sharp insights into family and marital dynamics, Bovell weaves a complex narrative through the eyes of four siblings who grapple with self-identity beyond the love and expectations of their parents. His writing skillfully probes the fragile relationships hidden beneath the surface, revealing how normalcy is often an illusion and happiness a distant mirage.

This bittersweet play explores the failures of those who, in their attempt to create a peaceful family haven, have unknowingly built their ideal of happiness on hidden truths and silence, colliding instead with deep-seated discontent. Bovell, celebrated for works like Speaking in Tongues—which he adapted for the screen as Lantana —and When the Rain Stops Falling, deftly addresses the powerful grip of the past in shaping the future in this latest work.
