In the 2020-21 season, artists and audiences will turn into observers of the classics, exploring them through a contemporary lens.
The drama ensemble will bring new interpretations of Vasa Zheleznova, Orlando, War and Peace and L’Illusion comique to the stage and the ballet ensemble will work on the development of a series of productions by emerging choreographers. The year 2020 marks a century since the founding of the opera department, and the ensemble will explore new ways to connect with audiences, including ambient music concerts in Belgrade and applied opera projects.
We will focus on strengthening regional collaborations, continue several international co-productions, and stay in touch with our audiences by deepening connections with them through the Platform programme. The National Theatre’s vision for 2020 is to open a third stage focused on interdisciplinary and contemporary projects.
