Seven awards, of which six ICARUS statuettes, including the Audience Award, were presented to the “Ivan Vazov” National Theatre’s teams during the ceremony of the prestigious Bulgarian theatre awards, given annually on 27 March, on World Theatre Day, by the Union of the Bulgarian Artists.
The awards for Directing, Best Performance and the Audience Award went to “Orpheus” by the Slovenian director Jernej Lorenzi. The actor Vladimir Penev received an award for his leading male role as Pop Krastyo in “Easter Wine” directed by Javor Gardev, and Timofey Kulyabin’s “Nora” received the statuette for its masterful technical execution.
The “ICARUS 2023 Award for Honour and Dignity” was presented to the actress Maria Stefanova, who at the moment performs in three productions of the National Theatre – “Ripcord”, “Three Tall Women”, and “New Land”. Anton Radichev, another actor from the theatre’s troupe, was awarded the prize for “Outstanding Contribution to Bulgarian Theatre”.
