Manuela Rey is in da House, a co-production by Teatro do Noroeste - Centro Dramático de Viana with Centro Dramático Galego, Teatro Nacional São João and Teatro Nacional D. Maria II, directed by Fran Nuñez returns to Teatro Municipal Sá de Miranda from 7 to 9 March.
Manuela Rey, "the lily woman", is more than just a line in the book of burials in Lisbon's Prazeres cemetery. It's a mystery that begins in Mondoñedo, in a village house in 1842, and ends at the Doña María II National Theatre in Lisbon. From Mondoñedo to Lisbon. From Galicia to Portugal. 23 years of life. 23 years of theatre. How can we reconstruct a life in which we only have loose and contradictory pieces?
We know that after six years she was handed over to an itinerant theatre company, which toured León, Palencia, Bragança, Valença, Ponte de Lima, Viana do Castelo, Régua, Porto for the adoptive family group to arrive in Lisbon and triumph at the Dona María II National Theatre, and she died a star at the age of 23. Manuela Rey is the forgotten story of Galician and Portuguese theatre. Actress. Writer. In this show, we try to recover what remains of her memory. Because without memory there is no history.
