In July, the ETC were happy to return to Avignon, France for the fifth edition of the European Theatre Academy during the Avignon Festival. Fourteen selected participants from across Europe attended practical sessions with industry experts, learned about various elements of international production and received mentorship on their own international projects. Following the daytime academy sessions, participants attended thought-provoking performances from the Festival d’Avignon each evening.
One of the participants, Larisa Faber, spoke of her experience of the Academy:
“Being selected for the ETA was not only a huge confidence boost but also an invaluable opportunity to pitch my project to ETC member theatres and gain insightful knowledge on European co-productions.
It is a very rare and cherished occurrence to attend any kind of extended workshop or academy and have all of your expectations met: to have stimulating discussions about the plays we attended, to meet theatre makers from all over Europe and be inspired by their work and determination, and to see a concrete impact for my own project (both in artistic terms as well as production opportunities).
Meeting theatre makers from all over Eastern Europe especially has been a real pleasure that opened my mind. Before attending the ETA, I was very much focussed on British theatre. Now I feel connected to a European theatre landscape and cannot wait to devise projects with new-found collaborators.”
ETC would like to thank all the participants for their hard work and valuable contributions to this year’s European Theatre Academy. We look forward to seeing the great impact you will have on the landscape of European theatre.
Applications for European Theatre Academy 2020 will be open in March 2020.
