With a lot of wit and humour, director Annalena Köhne takes the audience into the world of the "Golden Twenties" and shows how timeless and touching Irmgard Keun's 'Das kunstseidene Mädchen' is. Catch the premiere on 21 April!
Doris has had enough of her boring life as a secretary in the provinces, in which she has to type letters all day and fend off her abusive boss. With a stolen fur and no money, the 18-year-old flees to Berlin, into the adventure of the big city, to finally become 'glamourous'. Once there, she dreams of a glorious career as an actress and, fascinated by the world of glamour, gets involved in casual affairs with different men. But Doris soon realises that this world also has its downsides. Only when she discovers love for herself does she experience for the first time what real happiness could be, but the chosen one loves someone else...
Irmgard Keun's novel is one of the most successful of the Weimar Republic and still enjoys an enthusiastic readership today.
