The ATT have a long tradition of exploring German-speaking contemporary dramatic writing, a tradition which is continuing under Iris Laufenberg’s artistic direction. The festival team has travelled throughout the German-speaking theatrical landscape over the past year and selected ten performances, all of them first stagings of new theatre texts, which will be shown from 4 to 13 June on the DT’s different stages. HOW TO WRITE ABOUT THE CRISIS
Day of International Drama
13:00-17:00 Writers’ Rooms Workshops, in English
19:00-20:30 Authors’ panel, in English with German translation
Since the start of the 2023/24 season, the DT Ensemble has been presenting short texts by international authors in a weekly podcast series: stories about hope, courage and optimism in a heating world; stories from countries who are already directly and heavily impacted by the climate emergency.
Four of the authors, Simona Hamer from Slovenia, Himali Kothari from India, Marwa Manai from Tunisia and Pat To Yan from Hong Kong, will be present in Berlin during the festival.
They will explore the role that theatre narrations can play in the climate crisis from an international perspective on 14 June, in writing workshops open to the ATT audience, and in a panel moderated by nachtkritik journalist Elena Philipp.
The authors’s panel will be livestreamed on nachtkritik.de.
