16 February was the premiere of Antigona at SNG Nova Gorica, in a retelling by one of the most important voices in Slovenian dramatic writing, Dominik Smole.
Written in 1960, the production places the Greek tragedy right after the end of the devastating war; to tell a story about the moral breakdown of modern society and man.
"Antigone reminds us of every occasion when we did not act, but we should have, she reminds us of our everyday pragmatism, of small and large opportunism, of the social conformity in which we have lost ourselves, of the fears that prevent us from persevering, of every moment when we forget our own self," the theatre writes.
The premiere - directed by Luka Marcen - was extra special because it represented the final night for our ETC Artist in Residence, Andrija Rašović, who has been working with the theatre as Assistant Director on the production. Well done, Andrija, and looking forward to hearing more about your experiences!
