Since 2014, “Theatre is Dialogue – Dialogue of Cultures” has been supporting artists and theatres in Ukraine and other Eastern European countries in their efforts to set in motion fruitful exchanges and networking opportunities with colleagues across Europe.
Through this project, the ETC is at once looking to open new perspective for young Ukrainian theatre makers as well as to reinforce theatre as a public and democratic space, open for exchanges and reflections on society.

Artist Residency
The 2018 edition started with Schenk&Cant, a group of former ETC scholars, who developped a new play over the course of a residency in Germany in September-October and then toured Ukraine in November.
Guest Performances
The programme continued with guest performances from German theatres in Ukraine in November and December 2018; presenting various theatre forms (documentary and classroom plays) with Ukrainian surtitles, in order to stimulate exchanges about current aesthetic developments and progressive forms. A lecture about participative and digital theatre was also organised. Each guest performance was followed by a public discussion to encourage a discussion on content, form and structure between the audience and the artists.
Forum & Alumni Meeting
Theatre is Dialogue also promotes a continuous dialogue with local stakeholders to jointly develop professional collaborations as well as a structure for the contemporary theatre scene in Ukraine. It is with that objective that the ETC organised an alumni meeting with former ETC scholars in Kyiv, as well as a dialogue meeting with representatives of the independent and public theatres in collaboration with Goethe Institut Kyiv.
