Founded in 1951, Constantațș State Theater (TSC) is a public cultural institution operating under the authority of the Constanțta County Council. As a repertory theatre, it is the only institution of its kind in the Dobrogea region, maintaining a permanent company of 30 actors, numerous project-based collaborators, and 48 technical and administrative staff members. The Main Theatre Hall has a seating capacity of 270, and the Studio Hall accommodates between 80 and 100 seats.
More than 400 productions have been staged, spanning a broad repertoire from comedies to ancient tragedies, Romanian and universal classics to existentialist, modernist, and postmodern works.
Beyond its seasonal performances, TSC organized complex cultural events such as the Ancient Theatre Evenings, the “Myths of the Polis” Festival, and, in recent years, SEAS – The Summer Season of Performing Arts. SEAS, the largest festival of its kind, includes dozens of theatre, music, dance, opera performances, children’s theatre, and street theatre, with participants from Romania and abroad. Over the course of 7 to 9 summer weeks, events take place across indoor and outdoor venues, drawing a growing audience of both local residents and tourists. In 2024, attendance reached 80,000.
Since 2020, TSC has undergone a remarkable transformation, marked by a revitalized repertoire, a dynamic company, expanded events, and increasing recognition both locally and nationally. Over the past five years, the theater has received numerous honors, including ten UNITER Award nominations and six wins, notably Best Performance in 2023. The institution received a prestigious honor from the Office of the President, affirming its cultural significance. Constantța State Theater has participated in nearly all major Romanian theater festivals, with its actors receiving multiple awards for their performances.
In recent years, TSC has emerged as a leading force in Romanian theater and has solidified its role as a key contributor to Constantaț’s cultural development landscape.
