The Arriaga Theatre is a public institution located in the heart of Bilbao. It has been and continues to be one of the most important theatres in the Basque Country and Spain. Built in 1890, with a capacity to host 1,200 people, Arriaga Theatre is one of the landmarks of the city.

Under the artistic directorship of the European Awards of the European Cultural Foundation winner Calixto Bieito, the theatre has exhibited and co-produced works by Romeo Castellucci, Declan Donnellan, Simon Stone, Lia Rodrigues, Pascal Rambert, Barbora Horáková Joly, Erna Omarsdottir, Burkhard C. Kosminski, Lucía Lacarra and Tatjana Gürbaça.
The theatre runs an average of 200 performances and welcomes an audience of more than 150,000 people who attends the performances live in the theatre.
