Teatro do Noroeste – Centro Dramático de Viana officially opens its new season, reaffirming its public service mission in Viana do Castelo, Portugal, through four fundamental axes: Creation, Programming, Participation, and Education.

 

Participation: Regular Theatre Workshops

Starting September 9th, Wednesdays at the Sá de Miranda Municipal Theatre return to being dedicated to community artistic participation.

  • Community Impact: Organized into five distinct age groups (ranging from children to seniors), the workshops provide a unique platform for community development through theatre.
  • Mentorship: Sessions are led directly by actors from the Company’s resident ensemble.

 

Education: 2026–2027 School Theatre Offer

Rehearsals have officially begun for the first of five new creations scheduled to tour educational institutions throughout the municipality during the 2026–2027 academic year.

First Tour Launch: In October, the tour of "Só eu é que não tenho!" ('Only I don't have it!', 177th Creation) kicks off. Co-created and performed by Adriel Filipe, this production for 2nd Cycle Basic Education explores themes of peer pressure, material desires, and identity.

 

Creation: Rehearsals Underway for Strindberg's "A Menina" (‘The Miss’)

Rehearsals are in full swing for the Company's upcoming major production based on August Strindberg's classic drama ‘Miss Julie’.

  • Creative Team: Translated and directed by Rita Lello, with assistant direction by Nuno J. Loureiro, the production features ensemble members Alexandre Calçada, Elisabete Pinto, and Rafaela Sá.
  • Premiere Date: Staged as a reinterpretation of the Swedish masterpiece, the show will premiere on November 13th in the Main Hall of the Sá de Miranda Municipal Theatre.

 

Programming: 10th Viana do Castelo Theatre Festival

From November 13 to 21, the Sá de Miranda Municipal Theatre will host the 10th edition of the Viana do Castelo Theatre Festival.

  • National & International Hub: The festival will once again serve as a major meeting point for national and international performing arts productions.
  • Universal Accessibility: True to its pioneering tradition, the festival ensures transversal accessibility for both audiences and performing artists across all sessions, including Portuguese Sign Language translation, audiodescription, subtitling, and tactile stage recognition.
